Ash never knew her family. Her earliest memory is scavenging the streets of Kosovo, sustaining herself with a living in petty crime and doing whatever she could to survive. She was 7 years old at the time of the Kosovo War, and after staying out of the conflict as much as she could, living in bombed-out buildings and looting what supplies she could from military aid convoys, she was discovered by a group of Serbian soldiers who caught her stealing from a supply truck and came close to raping her. They were only prevented from doing so by Prime's timely intervention; as luck would have it, the Serbs chose to torture Ash before having their way with her, and such a harsh upbringing has left her with mental scars to rival Prime's - at his recommendation, she signed up for military service, and the military lifestyle seems to have ironed some (if not all) of the creases in the fabric of her life.
